Academic and Professional Achievement (2007)

Edward S. Noble, a native of St. Marys, is a member of the Memorial High School Class of 1936. Mr. Noble has notably distinguished himself as an attorney at law and civic leader in St. Marys.

After graduation from Memorial High School, Mr. Noble attended The Ohio State University and graduated in 1940 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. Upon graduation from The Ohio State University, Edward entered law school at the University of Michigan. However, he would not graduate with his Juris Doctorate until 1947 because he was drafted into the Army Air Corps during World War II. After being drafted, he attended Officers Candidate School at Harvard Business School. As a Second Lieutenant, he was assigned to the Army Air Corp Statistical Service at Wright Patterson Air Force Base. The group he was assigned to was later known as the Whiz Kids. The Whiz Kids helped reinvigorate the Ford Motor Company after World War II. Mr. Noble was discharged from the Army Air Corps as a Captain. Upon graduation from law school, he returned to St. Marys to start a solo law practice.

Edward Noble has been an attorney for over fifty years and his solo law practice is now the largest law firm in Auglaize County. The firm consists of himself and fellow attorneys Eldon Montague, John Moul, Kraig Noble, and Jeff Squire. In the legal profession, he has served as President of the Auglaize County Bar Association and was a member of the Executive Committee of the Ohio State Bar Association. He was appointed by the Ohio Supreme Court and served as a member of the Commissioners on Grievances and Discipline. Mr. Noble was also Chairman of the Auglaize County Bar Committee which instituted the creation of the Auglaize County Municipal Court. Edward also served as City Solicitor and was involved in many projects in post - World War II St. Marys. These projects included: codifying the St. Marys City Ordinances, building new sewer and water plants, acquiring land for a modern landfill, building a new swimming pool, establishing zoning and sub - division regulations, and enacting the first city income tax which allowed for modern streets and capital improvements. For his service to the legal profession, he has been selected as a Fellow of both the Ohio State Bar Foundation and the American Bar Foundation.

Mr. Noble has been involved with many groups and organizations as a civic leader. He helped restart the St. Marys Chamber of Commerce after World War II and served as its first President. He was involved in the Chamber group that secured land for the erection of the Joint Township District Memorial Hospital. He later served on the Hospital's Board of Governors. For over fifty years, Mr. Noble has been involved with the St. Marys Rotary Club. He was a co-founder of the United Fund of St. Marys which has since blossomed into the United Way of Auglaize County. Mr. Noble helped form and was an initial Trustee and President of the St. Marys Community Foundation. This Foundation is noted for awarding scholarships and loans to St. Marys Memorial High School graduates. Mr. Noble has also served as a member of the Western Ohio Educational Foundation Board, an organization that has transformed into the Lake Campus of Wright State University. Edward has also served as President of the Elm Grove Cemetery Board of Trustees and has been an active member of Wayne Street United Methodist Church. For his distinguished civic leadership, he has received numerous awards and recognitions which include: Rotary Club Distinguished Service Award, Rotary Club Paul Harris Fellow Award, St. Marys Jaycees Distinguished Service Award, and the St. Marys Chamber of Commerce Bridge Builder Award.



It is for his outstanding service as an Attorney at Law and Civic Leader, that Mr. Noble serves as a shining example to the people of St. Marys of what it means to serve others beyond ones self.
