Connie Hamberg was an outstanding two sport athlete in track and basketball at Memorial High School. After graduation, she played basketball for the Xavier University Musketeers where she led the Atlantic 10 Conference in three-point shooting and free throws. Connie continued her success after college coaching high school girls’ basketball and middle school girls’ basketball and softball.

Connie Hamberg was born on September 1, 1976, to William and Barbara Hamberg. At Memorial High School, she was a four–year standout athlete in track where she competed in 100-meter Hurdles and the High Jump. As a sophomore, Connie won the Western Buckeye League (WBL) Championship in high jump with a jump at 5’2”. She competed in the 1992 Ohio High School Athletic Association Division II State Track Meet where she tied for fourth with a jump at 5’4”. In 1993, Connie again won the WBL Championship with a jump of 5’4¼”, breaking a longstanding WBL record. In her senior year, Connie once again qualified for the Division II State Track Meet in High Jump. More than 30 years later, Connie still holds the MHS record for High Jump at 5’6”, tied with another MHS athlete.

Connie also excelled at basketball. At 5’11”, she was a four-year standout as a forward for the MHS girls’ basketball team. In her breakout sophomore season, Connie was named Special Mention WBL, Second Team District 8, and Third Team Northwest Ohio. As a junior, Connie led the Lady Riders to a 21-2 season, a 9-0 league record, their first-ever WBL Championship, and the Division II Sectional crown. She was named First Team WBL, First Team District 8, Second Team Northwest Ohio, Honorable Mention Ohio, and was named to the Dayton Daily News All–Star Team. As a senior, Hamberg led the Lady Riders to a record of most wins in a season at 22–4 and a second consecutive Division II Sectional crown. The Lady Riders advanced to its first-ever Regional tournament game, winning the District Championship under Connie’s scoring and leadership. Connie scored 20 points in a win over Willard, advancing the Lady Riders to the Regional finals. Connie was named First Team WBL, First Team District 8, First team Northwest Ohio, and Special Mention Ohio. She was selected to participate in the District 8 All–Star game and the Ohio–Indiana Border War game where she helped lead Ohio to a win over Indiana. Connie is the fourth highest scorer in Lady Rider basketball history with 1,348 career points as well as third in career free throws, fourth in career rebounds at 649, seventh in career assists as 211, and fifth in career steals at 245. In 2018, she was inducted into the inaugural class of the St. Marys Memorial High School Lady Riders Basketball Hall of Fame.

After graduating in 1994, Connie played 112 games over four years for the Xavier University Musketeers. She was named Most Improved Player her freshman year, when she led the team in free throw percentages in a game going 12-12 and 44 for 52 overall. Connie again led the Musketeers in free throw percentages her sophomore year and was the fourth highest free throw percentage in the A-10 Conference. As a senior, Connie was second in scoring for Xavier, led the Musketeers in 3-point shooting and free throw percentages, and was fourth in the A-10. She earned Third Team All–Atlantic 10 Conference Honors. When she graduated in 1998 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education, Connie Hamberg had 941 career points.

In 2002, Connie was named the Varsity Head Coach for girls’ basketball at Colerain High School and served as the Varsity Head Coach for girls’ basketball at Johnstown High School from 2004-2011. In 2026, she and her daughter, Bri, coached the Siegel Middle School girls’ softball team, going 30-0. The team won the Tennessee Middle School Athletic Association Class AA State Championship. Connie is married to Jim Allen and is the mother of two daughters, Bri and Mac. 



For her athletic excellence in Track and Basketball at Memorial High School and outstanding Basketball career at Xavier University, Connie (Hamberg) Allen is inducted into the St. Marys Memorial High School Alumni Foundation Hall of Fame for Athletic Achievement.
